Exploring the streets of New York City is one of my favorite things to do. Looking for new discoveries or going to recommended ones, I never stop. This is not a traditional food blog. I don't focus on restaurant reviews, or cooking tips; but I find specific items that you absolutely must try. Whether it be a cranberry donut or the best cappuccino. The focus isn't on the usual, but the cheap, the best, and the hidden.

I am always looking for new places to go! Send me a tweet, or leave me a tip of your favorite place or find in the comments!

I’m so over the cupcake craze in new York city. Oh, but wait.. what are these? Curly Cakes? Sometimes you find yourself falling into something you thought you no longer wanted. I’m really happy I fell into this, mouth wide open. Down in The Plaza Food Halllies some of the most creative and delicious cupcakes anywhere. Never before have I tasted a cupcake where the frosting and actual cake have been so well integrated tasting like one complete pastry. Not the frosting being a seemingly separate entity from the cake all together. Strawberry cheesecake and lemon meringue were the two I picked, and the two I would recommend. Lemon meringue definitely edging the strawberry. light whipped topping, with the perfect amount of lemon taste, complemented by a seemingly farm fresh blueberry filling. The strawberry cheesecake had just the right amount of cheesecakiness without tasting fake, or being too much like a mini cheesecake. Curly cakes are not only delicious, but hard to find. Based in Boston, unless you order directly from their website, you cant get them. You’re welcome New York.

I know what everyone is thinking. Cupcakes? More cupcakes? Settle down everyone, I wouldn’t do this unless it was something you really needed to know about. And it is. This is one of those places that you instantly overlook, and assume is tourist fueling station. Like me, you’re completely wrong. The little kiosk on Prince street just off Broadway is harboring not only some of the best, but most creative and unique cupcakes available. Ever heard of cool runnings? (not the movie) Filled with mango amoretto mousse and topped with peach amaretto whipped cream and fresh mango. What about the big easy? Pecan pie cupcake filled with vanilla mousse and topped with vanilla icing and crushed pecans. Are they good? Amazing. Each flavor had its own specific texture from moist, to chewy, and creamy. The creamy topping, the luscious cake, and the decadent filling created a sweet trifecta that is rarely seen on a cupcake. This is not the only place to get these cupcakes, as they can even be ordered online. The cart gets a shipment Fridays around noon, so stop by then. Each cupcakes is $3 dollars and some change.

Another creamy and moist treat, discovered.

Tip: Cash only!
Tip: Bring friends so you can try more than one flavor, because you will not be able to choose. Seriously.

The best cupcakes in Manhattan. That won’t start a debate, but a fight. So this post is just one of the best cupcakes you can find in this amazing city. ChikaLicious Dessert Bar is known by many, but not known by even more. This tiny shop is fairly hidden, and if you aren’t specifically searching for it, probably won’t find it. The cupcakes are in a display case on the counter and they almost look fake; kind of like plastic. Make no mistake this will be one of the best cupcakes you will ever have. Go for the s’mores cupcake. Regular cupcakes like red velvet are $1.75, and premium-filled cupcakes like s’mores are $2.50.

Another one of the best, found.

Additional finds: The other cupcake flavors. The man behind the counter knows which ones are best if you ask him. I’ve heard the banana cupcake is amazing (via @multisync)
